Selena
She is a performer as well as a designer, and music innovator. The Mexican-American singer was still traditional. She brought Tejano into mainstream music. As is often the case of a brilliant and genial star passes away far too early, her untimely demise caused her to lose the popularity she had been gaining. Many mourned all of the potential that was not fully realized. Fans have worked harder through the years to ensure that her legacy is kept alive. Her tragic death in a shooting provoked a response from the Latino Community that was comparable with the reactions to the death of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena was a wildly loved Latino artist throughout North America. Her music transcended the boundaries of culture and touched the hearts of youngsters as well as older adults. Selena was an asexual, flamboyant performer on stage who was sometimes referred to by the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an outstanding role model, as she participated actively in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
