Ari Lennox

Courtney Shanade Salter, aka Ari Lennox, was born in Washington, D.C. on March 26th in 1991. She is an American artist and songwriter, as well as the first artist to be signed by J. Cole to his record label Dreamville Records. The first single, Pho which was released on 21 October 2016 was released through Dreamville Records. Her career began to grow in notoriety. Shea Butter Baby, her debut studio album was released the 7th of May, 2019. Ari Lennox began uploading her music online in the year 2012 after she dropped her mixtape debut Five Finger Discount, and her debut EP Ariography in the year 2013. In 2014 she continued to share her music over the web, including her own release single Bound. On July 21 2015 she appeared on Omen's album Elephant Eyes with the track Sweat It Out. Later that year her music was circulating all over the Dreamville team as J. Cole wanted her to work with him on some possible references for Rihanna. On December 8, that she had signed with Dreamville Records. Backseat was her contribution for the Revenge of the Dreamers II album. The 21st of October, 2016, the EP Pho debuted. Ari Lennox later appeared on J. Cole's track Change and also performed as the opening act on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour in 2017. The singer also performed on the tracks Nothing but the Best by EarthGang as well as Icarus along with Bas, her labelmates. Ari Lennox's debut album Shea Butter Baby was released on 16 July 2018. The first single, called Whipped Cream, from the album dropped on the 5th of September, 2018 and featured a an accompanying music video. On the 9th of November, she released two additional singles: forty Shades of Choke as well as Grampa. The 13th of November, she dropped two singles titled One and Pedigree. One as well as Pedigree. She then appeared on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on a track titled Shea Butter Baby on November 16 and released as a single in February 2019 for her debut album the same title. The track was accompanied by a music video that was released on February 20, 2019 that surpassed three million views on YouTube within one week. She was one of the support acts for 6LACK on their From East Atlanta With Love Tour in December of 2018.
