Anushka began to audition for film roles as an actor and attended an acting class along with her professional career as a model. Anushka Sharma made her film debut in 2008 with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. She was in the film with Shah Rukh Khan. The actress took a day off to get ready for the screen test, and didn't want to make an impractical version. After that, she was signed for three movies under the Yash Raj Films banner. She played a younger bride to the middle-aged actor (Shah Rukh Khan) in the film. The film was hit on the box office and was the second-highest-grossing movie of 2008. Anushka played Shahid Kapoor Meiyang Chang and Vir Das in the film Badmash Company. The film received mixed praises. The same year Anushka Sharma appeared in the film "Band Baaja Baaraat' with Ranveer Singh, in which she played the role of a middle-class Punjabi girl who begins her own wedding-planning business. The film was well-received and was later a sleeper. Anushka had completed her three-film contract with Yash Raj Films.
